With a current global population of over 8-billions, w/ more than 2-billions living in poverty, there is a great need for skilled project managers to make effective use of the very limited resources available to achieve critical economic development/ anti-poverty programs. U. N. is now in the process of funding project management training. Such instruction includes the
following components:
a) Communication and leadership skills.
b) Critical thinking abilities.
c) Problem solving & effective management.
d) Business acumen.
Effective project management also has the ability to perfect project scope and plans as well as assembly and direction of a well-qualified project team. They must know options to get good stakeholder participation. Risks need to be considered and mitigated. Control of quality of all inputs must be a priority. Closing of projects with evaluations, funds accounting, lessons learned, and replication plans are added skills good project managers need.
Each of the above skill areas needs specialized instructions to perfect. My charity, NPI has been writing and testing training manuals for each of the above skill areas. We have added courses on entrepreneurship and funding new business starts as critical inputs all project managers should consider. For team leadership training, we also added typical and proven
military training such as on a team challenge via a complex ropes course.
NPI hopes to soon work with the U. N. on an advanced & unique course for training project managers.
