Surveys by the ILO (Intl. Labor Organization) have disclosed & documented that 20 % of global youth, aged 16 to 24, are NEET (not seeking education, employment, or training). It was found that poor job markets, ineffective schooling, anxiety, despair, health issues, and lack of entrepreneurship instruction are causing the NEET problem. The negatives created by this situation are:
a) A large pool of frustrated/ angry youth are available for recruitment by gangs, criminals and assorted criminal organizations, terrorists, narco-terrorists, insurgents, and disruptive groups like BLM, Antifa, as well as neo-Nazis.
b) NEET youth typically require extensive services from government and demand "freebies" from government or give political support to deceptive political movements making a host of false promises of such "freebies."
c) The economies and social strength of all nations is damaged by having 20 % of youth not making positive contributions, causing a number of health and other problems, and acting like parasites or supporting one or more groups seeking to harm governments/ nations.
d) Damaging efforts to achieve national and global security while improving well-being for all.
To help correct the NEET crisis for youth the following actions need to be taken: 1) Offer education to prepare youth for available jobs along with teaching citizenship; 2) Create and promote volunteer & apprenticeship opportunities; 3) Provide positive youth organizations; 4) Offer entrepreneurship instructions & funding for new business starts; 5) Counter any and all recruitment by elements seeking to exploit youth; 6) Increase youth sports activities; and 7) Halt the "freebies" and false promises of "freebies" for youth. In addition, parent training and support programs should be provided to assist parents deal effectively w/ NEET their youth.
Last but not least, strong counselling and mental health programs need to be available as well as promoted to youth.
Any nations that fails to develop and fully utilize its human resources may not long survive!
