One of the basic survival rules is "hold your friends close while holding your enemies even closer." One of my enemies I never met in person was an Australian named Wilfred Burchett.
As a young journalist, he was asked to visit, and write a story about, the large Japanese city Hiroshima shortly after it was hit by a U. S. atomic bomb. As a result of this tragic and horrific experience, Wilfred became a dedicated communist who hated the U. S.
In the process of cultivating his support for communism he developed friendships with the communist leaders of China, Russia, Vietnam, Cambodia, & North Korea. These communist leaders called Burchett Comrade Wilfred. During travels, he continued to write for assorted outlets and used his writings to harm the U. S. and other nations he considered imperialist. Wilfred used false accusations to cause as much harm as possible. While visiting N. Korea during the Korean war, his several articles about that tragic war accused the U. S. of using germ warfare against the North Koreans. During his life, of 72 years (he died in 1983) most communist leaders considered him their "propaganda arm." Wilfred wrote 41 books filled with hatred that were published.
His home nation of Australia, exiled Wilfred for 20-years from 1995 to 1972 until he was finally forgiven in 1973 for all his hatred. Some of his books were intercepted and destroyed, by U. S. or other covert actions, before they could reach intended destinations. Wilfred was a creative and fairly good writer who would do research before writing. When employed by Viet commie Ho Chi Minh, to write a false history of the Vietnam War, Wildred spent some time in Viet Cong areas of South Vietnam these communist forces controlled. He even lived for several days in a Viet Cong underground complex used to shelter their troops from aerial bombing and/or artillery employed by South Vietnamese forces (ARVN) and the U. S.
As part of his false history of the Vietnam War he fabricated what he called major U. S. war criminals. I was in S. Vietnam at the time, working to help develop a Village Defense Project to protect the Viet & Montagnard populations from communist terrorist attacks. Thus, Wilfred
decided to falsely state, in his fabricated history, that I was constantly travelling all of South Vietnam dressed as a French priest, for the purpose of assassinating communist cadre who had infiltrated villages. To make the fabrication seem real, Viet communist leaders, I have yet to identify, printed and widely circulated a Wanted Dead or Alive Poster, with my name and photo. My photo was obtained from a Time-Life Magazine article about my actual efforts in South Vietnam.
Wilfred's said fabrication and the subject poster soon resulted in 7 assassination attempts to take my life. It was during these attempts that I got to know the Holly Spirit during uniquely spiritual instructions on what I needed to do to save my life. These events were unreal so I will not attempt to recount them here. The lesson for me was to make very certain you get to know all your enemies and potential enemies, and know them well.
