Vladimir Putin, the former KGB officer, entered Russian politics in 2000 and became the de factor leader of that nation via different leadership roles. He restored Stalin's old policy of nationalism of industry and facilitated the creation of wealthy Russian oligarchs on condition they be loyal and supportive of him. Russians who dared to oppose him had their lives soon terminated under unusual circumstances. In 2022, Putin launched a Russian military strike on Ukraine claiming Ukraine was under the control of neo-Nazis who were preparing military attacks on Russia. This claim was false and nothing more than propaganda and justification

for the Russian army's invasion of Ukraine as directed by Putin.

Most Russian experts now generally agree that Putin directed his military attack on Ukraine for the following reasons:

a) Fear that Ukraine would join NATO.

b) Economic problems in Russia.

c) Demographic crises.

d) Imperial visions of restoring the USSR with Ukraine and 15 other Republics as members.

e) A strategic move to strengthen his role as Dictator.

Russia stated as a nation by the Slavic tribes who gained control of other area tribes/or Republics forming the 89 regions of Russia. The collapse of USSR, composing all of these populations in 1991 was due to economic problems & political stalemates causing Ukraine,

Belarus, Geogia, Kazakhstan, and others to break away. The Islamic Chechens later started acts of resistance, from1999 to 2009 to become independent. The Russian population of 140 million is still a "mixed bag."

Stalin's brutal control of the USSR, 1924 to 1953, weakened this nation causing shortages and starvation by flawed state control of industries and collectivization of farms causing very dramatic reduction of crop production using communist policies. Under Stalin, members of the populations offering opposition to him or his policies were murdered of held by force of arms in state labor camps known as Gulags. Stalin did organize the Russian military to help defeat the Nazis during World War II but then acted to use his forces to gain control of part of Germany and Eastern Europe.

Putin has used Russian military forces, at the cost of over 900,000 Russian soldiers killed and massive amounts of Russian military equipment destroyed to capture part of Ukraine. He now demands that Ukraine allow Russia to keep this land in exchange for a questionable Peace Agreement. There is a major debate over the dangers of an aggressor being allowed to claim and keep land taken by force. It remains to be seen how this will "play out." Our nation and E. U. nations are and have been supporting Ukraine but how long that support will be continued and at what level, is an unknown.

If humans somehow colonize a new planet, we will need to make every possible effort to avoid all the mistakes and problems created on earth!!
