Over the years, I was asked to conduct national economic and security surveys for a number of developing nations in Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Middle East. Most of these countries had the same flaws. To wit:
1) Patterns of incompetence a corruption at many levels.
2) Power seekers in positions of leadership.
3) Ghost troops in military units with pay for ghosts taken by commanders.
4) Insufficient economic growth to employ many youths so the unemployed & angry youth are vulnerable to recruitment by gangs, criminals, terrorists, narco-terrorists, & insurgents.
5) One of more minority groups living in social, economic, and political isolation in their home nations, with some efforts to eliminate those populations.
6) Massive national debts.
7) Inadequate educations means to include little entrepreneurship training.
8) Production and export of illegal drugs (in several nations).
9) Conflicts with neighboring nations.
10) Inadequate food crop production and a need to import foods.
11) Efforts to impose their ideology on others.
12) Periodic armed conflicts with others.
All the above problems result in two billion of the world's current population living in extreme poverty with some being killed or displaced and 820 million living on the brink of starvation. An estimated 1.4 billion would like to come to the U. S. if they could find the means to do so.
