During the Vietnam War, our initial troops committed to that conflict had no, or poor, jungle warfare training. U. S. military "brass" decided the jungle was the enemy although it was all neutral. They falsely believed that if the jungle vegetation was eliminated that they could soon kill the communist Viet Cong and PAVN (N Viet) troops using extensive bombing and artillery strikes. The flaw with this means of attack was that communist forces had prepared extensive underground facilities for protection and only moved infrequently at night using a means of camouflage for troops on the move.
Initially USAF spray aircraft sprayed the jungle with 2,4-D herbicide and again w/ stronger herbicide 2,4,5-T having a very toxic long-lasting contaminant, dioxin. Then without testing, the USAF commanders directing spraying S. Vietnam's jungles decided to mix the chemicals together to create what became known as Agent Orange. Monsanto, the manufacturer was asked to remove the hazardous dioxin but did not do so since that process was expensive. Thus, our USAF proceeded to kill jungle and wildlife, harm the environment, and create many tragic health hazards for our troops, communist forces, and sprayed populations.
A good friend, Howard A. served his USAF Vietnam tour doing base security and loading spray aircraft daily with Agent Orange. His sperm was contaminated with dioxin and his body stored dioxin so such that his sperm was contaminated long term. After returning to the U. S. he married, and he and his wife had two sons. I came to know his sons due to my close friendship with Howard. Both sons were dioxin-babies with one son, Bryan, having the most genetic damage from the dioxin. Bryan has web feet, is extremely obese, has ADHD, & his mental functioning is quite limited not being able to even add 2 plus 2 or other very basic math function. He became a habitual liar trying to cover for all of his embarrassing errors. As of this date, Bryan is suicidal.
For about two years the VA would not pay for dioxin disabilities for a Vietnam service member's child unless that member we a female who was long exposed to Agent Orange and later became a mother. Eventually, the VA had to admit that dioxin was stored in the body long term and acted to contaminate male sperm so that fathers could produce dioxin babies all having serous genetic defects. Said parents also had major health problems caused by dioxin exposure. Parkinson's Disease was one of these health problems.
Agent Orange was sprayed extensively in S. Vietnam, over the DMZ area in Korea, and to kill brush around USAF bases in Thailand. The result was health problems for all the adults so exposed to this highly toxic chemical. When these adults had children, thousands of known dioxin babies resulted in the U. S., Vietnam, Korea, and Thailand. Monsanto also test-sprayed Agent Orange covertly over areas of San Carlos Apache Reservation in AZ. This
test spaying was done without notice to, or approval from, the USG (U. S. Govt.) or the Apache Nation. Long-term result of this test spraying was the elimination of three Apache clans living in the Agent Orange sprayed areas of the said Apache Reservation.
When any action needs advanced testing for safety using scientific methods, and that testing is not done, great harm can result.
