There are no easy or inexpensive means to recover from a terrorist attack on you or your facilities. Protect yourself by use of a varied schedule, diverse means of travel, secure work location, security systems, confidential schedule, weapon, and body armor as needed. For your facilities, defend them, in advance of a possible attack by the following means:
a) Most terrorists will seek to take computers and thumb-drives and records of all types. So secure all records in hard copies at another/ isolated secure site.
b) All terrorists will utilize arson attacks if given the opportunity, A good, automated sprinkler system should be employed to protect "key" facilities.
c) Your communications system will be destroyed at the start of most terrorist attacks. Have a secure and separate emergency communications means.
d) Terrorists will typically use rented or stolen trucks to crash through gates and/or entry doors. Put well anchored heavy steel bollards in place to block such forced entry.
e) Armed team attacks are used by most terrorists so an armed guard has little chance of trying to stop such attacks and law enforcement personnel seldom can respond and defend quickly. If confronted with a probable terrorist attack, recruit & establish emergency commo
(communications) systems with nearby armed volunteer military veterans willing to quickly threaten attacking terrorists from the rear, if legal.
f) Terrorists will break down doors and crash windows to enter your facility. Install heavy steel doors in reinforced frames with secure locks and put steel bar-coverings over windows.
g) Drive-by shooting are used by terrorists to kill your personnel and cause damage to your facilities. Replace exposed windows with glass using a bulletproof Lexan.
h) Observation. recon of target facilities is typical for terrorist attack planning. Be alert to any strange viewing of facilities by unknown persons or drone photography of your faculties and
nearby areas.
i) Infiltration is used by some terrorists for close study of a pending target. Vetting of staff and visitors will add a layer of protection against terrorist attacks.
j) Kidnapping of staff or their family members is used by some terrorists as part of an attack plan. Train your staff on use of the above said personal protection.
k) Terrorists seek to use surprise attacks to their advantage. Install active security cameras and motion activated lights/ alarms in the area(s) of your facilities.
Most terrorists are innovative and create new means of attack such as the 9/11 terrorists use of commercial airlines, skyjacked, to kill nearly 3,000 Americans, destroy Twin Towers in New York City and damage part of the Pentagon. Seek to defend against possible terrorist attacks in a creative way.
